Are you too poor to afford a 63 split window?

I’ve seen two separate C5’s with these. One of which was black, which made it even dumber.

At least this one appears t o be more slender than the original. Still curious how it looks from inside though.

I love the split window. This is not a proper homage any more than stick on “ vents” area tribute to Buick.

Thanks to the deep tint on the rear glass , you probably barely notice it from the inside. Doesn't make it any less hideous from the outside, unfortunately.

“Why yes this is a real accessory you can buy”

Never doubted it. Surprised it’s not a factory option.

Still not as bad as the cross generation conversions. I'll spare everyone pics of the c6 to c7, c6 to c7, and c6 to c7 conversions

This is part of what bothered me about that lost corvette show on History Channel the other night, where the guy “built” a “1983" corvette.

And by built, I mean he restomodded a car the way he wanted to.

And by 1983, I mean it was a resto-modded 1985 C4.

The entire point of the split window is missed by almost everyone.

The point of a split window is that the window glass doesn’t interrupt a continuous flowing longitudinal centerline. Even the 63 Split-window corvette didn’t have a continuous centerline, it started above the windshield and ended on the top of the rear bodywork.

The old Bugattis and Figoni-et-Falaschi designs from the art deco period had centerlines from the front to the back. If not through the grille, then at least from the figurehead ornament on top of the radiator, all the way to the back of the car. The windshield was usually divided or at least peaked in the center and flat glass otherwise, the hood was usually center-hinged... and the rear window may have been split to keep the line continuous, or it was otherwise ornate.

The 63 Corvette wasn’t even a full boat tail the way the 72 Riviera was, where the tapered point continues through the tail panel.

None of the later Vettes after C2 have anything like a longitudinal centerline as a character line... and simply putting a body-color stripe on the rear hatch is ridiculous and IMO, tasteless.

I would love to see a streamlined design with a centerline. Bugatti Galibier concept did it, and molded the line into the glass with an LED center brake light.

Kinja'd!!!

If you are going to do it... do it properly, and make it mean something.

The split window was another example of Bill Mitchell’s obsession with prewar coach built luxury cars, he really tried to work in references to those sorts of cars any chance he got. The results were usually great (eg  1966 Toronado ), but sometimes questionable (1980 Seville).
